About the Course
S Queering Methods: Critical Approaches in Interdisciplinary Interpretive Social Research
The course addresses selected methods in empirical qualitative research from a queer and critical perspective. It examines how normative categories and assumptions – such as gender, family, or ethnicity – shape the selection and use of specific research methods, including processes of data generation and data analysis. The course combines critical engagement with selected methods and research-practice-oriented exercises. Topics include participatory and third-mission research approaches, power asymmetries in interview situations, and ethical challenges in working with biographical and narrative data. Students are encouraged to critically assess established procedures and to develop reflexive strategies for combining different methods in empirical research.
The preliminary meeting will take place online; all subsequent sessions are planned as in-person block meetings.
